TAQA Energy, together with partner EBN, is realising the Bergermeer Gas Storage facility in Alkmaar. The underground storage of natural gas is required to ensure a stable and guaranteed availability of sufficient natural gas in all seasons in the coming decades.
Gas storage Bergermeer will be Europe's largest freely accessible gas storage facility, with a working volume of 4.1 billion cubic metres of natural gas. This covers about 10 per cent of the Netherlands' annual total gas consumption and enough to meet the annual consumption of 2.5 million households.
The implementation of the project is in the hands of eight main contractors who bear joint responsibility for its success. Between 600 and 700 mining companies are operating on the site itself and a total of around 9,000 people are employed at the site.
This vast and complex project was held up by pressure from the government. The main conditions that had to be met, besides being able to work safely, were preventing illegal labour, being able to provide correct reports to the tax authorities and exact time recording and VCA monitoring. It was also required that 80% of the employees come from the region.
In cooperation with Securitas, IQ-Pass is providing security for this project at two locations: Bergermeer and Boeklermeer. GoWorkforce was developed in cooperation with, among others, the Tax Authority, SZW and State Supervision of Mines. A component of this software is a monthly check by the Inland Revenue for ATW (working hours act), work permit, visa and BSN number.
