No more queues at the gate, a logical onboarding process and aiming for zero downtime
Exactly why Yara in Sluiskil chose to work with IQ-Pass. We are now three projects further and Yara is very satisfied with the application of the hardware and software. In the past turnaround, as many as 3,500 contractors, 230 companies and 20 main contractors have been registered in GoWorkforce. We discussed our successful collaboration with Maarten Van De Ginste, Turnaround Manager at Sluiskil.
About Yara
Yara Sluiskil is a production plant of the Norwegian company Yara International that operates globally. Located on the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal Zone since 1929, Yara Sluiskil produces nitrogen fertiliser and industrial chemicals, such as Air 1® and NOxCare®, as well as CO2 for the soft drink industry and beer breweries. In recent years, the company has been rapidly evolving from a bulk producer to a supplier of speciality fertilisers and products, continuously realising environmental improvements with its production and products.
Yara Sluiskil is Yara International's largest production site. Safety is a top priority here. As a result, the plants at this location are among the most efficient and reliable in the world.
The collaboration
No more queues at the gate
Long queues - due to registration and onboarding - at the gate became a thing of the past for Yara. Maarten: "With GoWorkforce, all our employees are registered, checked and onboarded in advance. For example, we check them on their nationality, identity and A1 declaration. Only when someone has ticked all the boxes does the (sub)contractor receive an access pass and access to the site. This gives us maximum control and makes managing all those (sub) contractors a lot easier."
Maarten: "Whereas previously you had to dig through entire archives to view documentation, everything is now in one system. With the click of a button, you can see which company or contractor the (sub)contractor belongs to, whether the permits are still valid and whether the qualifications and certificates have not expired. If they have, GoWorkforce automatically notifies you. As a result, you only have authorised and qualified employees on your site. Yet another additional security that we value highly."
Logical onboarding
The moment contractors are registered and have access to the site, they are onboarded with GoWorkforce. Maarten: "A logical process that includes all the steps you need to think about as a contractor and (sub)contractor. It's nice that the onboarding is accessible in multiple languages, so there will never be any miscommunication about safety on site."
Striving for zero downtime
In a very short space of time, Yara has many on-site activities. From maintaining the machines, checking, checking and cleaning parts in plant, to making the plants more efficient, safe and sustainable. Breakdowns are disastrous in a turnaround. That is why Yara strives for zero downtime in these projects. 24/7 support is very important for an organisation like Yara, so that any problems can be solved quickly and downtime is kept to a minimum. Does everything always go well then? Maarten: "No, not always. Sometimes a breakdown occurs. IQ-Pass's service and support are extremely important then. The malfunctions that have occurred in recent years have therefore been resolved quickly. Very nice that we can always count on IQ-Pass' service."
Hardware expansion
Meanwhile, the hardware at Yara has expanded considerably. From cameras and musterpoints to IQ-Pass' very latest product: the Folding Gate. Maarten: "During the construction of a new site, we incorporated the 'Folding Gate' directly into the road surface. It's nice to have a partner who thinks along with you in situations like this and helps to achieve maximum security for your site."
